West Sikkim - Travel Guide

Sikkim is a mountainous state with a diverse flora and fauna, beautiful high peaks, flowing waterfalls, tranquil lakes, and abundant animals. The breathtaking vista of Mount Kanchenjunga, which shares a border with Nepal, is the primary attraction of west Sikkim.

A slew of lovely religious monasteries and temples, as well as villages and waterfalls, contribute to the allure. There is some fantastic hiking, notably the week-long trip to Goecha La, which comes near the icy foot of Kanchenjunga, with a little planning and funding. West Sikkim is mostly for individuals who enjoy nature and prefer to contemplate while surrounded by tranquil vegetation.

HEE BERMIOK

Hee Bermiok alludes to two or three of towns in West Sikkim that has picked up a great deal of conspicuousness over the most recent few years. This group is near the Kaluk Rinchenpong zone. These towns are flanked by the Hee River toward the west, Rangit River toward the east, Kalez River toward the north and Samdong timberland reserve in the south. Colourful assortment of widely varied vegetation are the sign of Hee Bermiok.

Some stunning attractions of Hee Bermiok are Srijunga cascades that is around an hour’s far from the bazaar of Bermiok. The flawless Chaya Taal Lake is close to the Hee town. Here you'll find a water stop with pools and slides. Mountain riding, nature walks, ancestral monument visits, and trekking are popular activities for visitors to Hee Bermiok.

KALUK

Kaluk town is only a few kilometres from Rinchenpong, and travellers usually visit both at the same time when visiting this area. The Gurung Monastery, the Lepcha Heritage House, and the breathtaking mountain vistas from nearly every direction are the region's main attractions. You may go boating on the Teesta River and shop at the Chinese bazaar that forms on its banks every so often. The Kaluk market is only open on Thursday evenings, and residents sell everything from vegetables to clothing to electronics from both sides of the road.

RINCHENPONG

The eighteenth-century Rishum monastery and other religious temples, which are nestled amidst the beautiful forests path, are among the many magnificent sights in Richenpong. In this town, there is a recreation centre dedicated to Rabindranath Tagore. Rinchenpong's other unique features include the Poison Lake, the ruins of an ancient British bungalow, and so on.

Rinchenpong is blessed with abundant average perfection, and the views of Mount Kanchenjunga from here are breathtaking. From here, one can also see the magnificent Mount Narsing. There is a link between Kaluk and Rinchenpong, and this has tremendous review potential. Bermiok, Dentam, Hee, and Uttarey are all on the mountain's edge. Many travellers like to plan full-day trips to the Ridge in order to see the complete array of activities.

DZONGRI

Dzongri stays at a height of 4200 metres and is now regarded as exceptional in comparison to other Sikkim hiking destinations... Some even go so far as to say it's India's top hiking location. The sight of chains of flawless White Mountains all surrounding Dzongri is enough to keep one enthralled. It is stated that 14 separate crests from Dzongri may be seen. During the winters, there is a lot of snow and the temperature drops below zero. Dzongri is recommended for experienced and motivated trekkers. Before you attempt a walk in these places, you should be physically fit.

YUKSOM

Yuksom is a sleepy hamlet surrounded by lush forests and delicious wilderness. Yuksom is where you'll find usually reasonable accommodations, cafes, travel organisations, stores, and so on to help you plan and prepare for the Dzongri walk. The Kanchenjunga National Park is located here. Wonderful hikes and visits are available within the recreation centre and cabin, but they must be scheduled in advance through the Range Office.

UTTAREY

Tourists usually travel to Uttarey from Dentum, Gezing, or Peling. This little community is known for its regular quality and tranquil atmosphere. Uttarey, on the north slope of the Singalila mountain, is surrounded on all sides by Bhutan, Nepal, West Bengal, and Tibet. This is a little satellite settlement with a variety of small and interesting treks separated by a swarm of Rhodenderons.

A trout angling ranch in Uttarey, Chitrey, attracts a large number of fisherman and fishes. Uttarey Trout Centre is located around 1 kilometre from Uttarey. You may learn how to raise, maintain, and reproduce trout here, as well as purchase new fish and fishing equipment on the inside.

On the approach to Pelling, there is a magnificent stretch of Sikkim that serves as the gateway to West Sikkim. This location serves as a crossroads for roadways leading to Kewzing, Tashiding, Gangtok, Peling, Yuksam, Jorethang, and Gayzing (Gyalshing).

Legship has progressively evolved into a haven for water sports enthusiasts. Aside from the picturesque Rangit River, the well-known Shiva sanctuary is located here. In the Rangit's waters, you may enjoy paddling, drifting, kayaking, and other activities. Legship's newly constructed water stop is a popular attraction that has just begun to draw a large number of visitors. Tatto Pani, a hot water spring with charged and therapeutic powers, is located near the Legship exhibition.

BIKESTHANG

A little distance from Pelling is the lovely Biksthang mansion, often known as Chuchen... which translates to "Big Lake." Biksthang, according to the Lepchas who have lived here for a long time, contains a large number of sacred stones. The region is well-known for bird-watching and nature-watching, as well as being one of the most lavish millet producers. Mongalbaria, the location of the neighbouring haat, is a prominent attraction. Every Sunday, a mind-boggling array of home-cooked meals, flavours, and harvests are sold here.

Once at Biksthang, pay a visit to the Lheuntse religious group, the Rahu Ney Caves, and the Sikkim god of the Kanchenjunga Watchman, who guards the five riches symbolised by the Kanchenjunga, Narsing, Gabur Gangsten, Pandim, and Simvo ranges.

DENTAM VALLEY

Dentam Valley is around 12 kilometres from Barsey's scenic site. Dentam is 1500 metres above sea level. Surprisingly, even at this elevation, Dentam possesses flat, non-undulating soil with unusual geology that provides breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga. Dentam is surrounded by rhododendrons, and nature enthusiasts and bird watchers congregate here. Mountain climbing and trekking are popular activities here.

Barsey Rhodenderon Sanctuary

At an altitude of 10,000 feet... Barsey (also Varsey) is a lesser-known West Sikkim attraction located near the Nepal border. Barsey's high elevation provides spectacular views of the Kanchenjunga peaks. Rich timberlands span the whole region, which are home to a diverse range of species including wild hemlock, magnolia, and orchids.

The 104-square-kilometer Barsey Rhodenderon Sanctuary, located between the Kanchenjunga National Park in North Sikkim and the Singalila National Park in South Sikkim, is a highlight among West Sikkim's numerous attractions. The best time to visit this location is between March and April, when the blossoms are at their peak. In this institution, you'll also find a Red Panda.

OKHREY VILLAGE

Okhrey, which is located near the Barsey Rhodenderon asylum, is a little town that has made a reputation for itself in the field of eco-tourism. To get here, you must drive 18 kilometres through Sombaria. Sherpa clans live here, and they've partnered with the Sikkim government to launch a social mindfulness initiative that uses small homestays throughout the town. One can visit Okhrey to sample the local cuisine, admire the architecture, and participate in music and dance performances. Okhrey also offers nature walks, mountain treks, cooking classes, musical nights, and inborn association programmes.

PELLING

Pelling, without a doubt West Sikkim's most well-known attraction, is situated at a height of 2150 metres above sea level. From here, one can view both the Himalayan and Kanchenjunga ranges. This is where adventurers and trekkers go on expeditions to isolated locations. Pelling features a wonderful helipad with spectacular views, which is a popular attraction. The Sanga Choeling monastery, Pemayangtse monastery, Rimbi River waterfall, and the stone garden are among the several attractions.

GEYZING

There is a much larger town called Geyzing 10 kilometres before reaching Pelling (or Gyalshing). This is the capital of West Sikkim, and it is known for the bustling Geyzing market, which has been operating for nearly a century. Gyalshing relates to the Royal greenery borders at Rabdentse Palace, and it unexpectedly denotes the Kings garden. If you're looking for a place to shop, the Geyzing bazaar is the greatest option.
